pioneer in the recuperation of the Gold trail in Paraty.
WHAT IS THE GOLD TRAIL - One of the most important portals to the interior
of Brazil in colonial times, the Gold Trail was a 1200 km road that
connected Paraty to Diamantina, going through Ouro Preto and Tiradentes.
Paved in the 18th and 19th centuries, it was abandoned in the 20th century
and little is left of its original pavement. One of its longest surviving
sections is in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Part of this trail
crosses the Gold Trail Historical-Ecological Site, which has recovered it
and opened it for public visitation.
